The City of Decatur has a solid waste franchise agreement with Waste Connections, and garbage rates are adjusted for inflation under that contract (1.88% in April 2025 and 4.85% approved in March 2026). The current City fee schedule, Ordinance 2026-09-29, effective October 1, 2026, lists these temporary roll-off rates under “Garbage, City Fees Only”:

• 20 yard open top: $635.24 haul fee
• 30 yard open top: $731.19 haul fee
• 40 yard open top: $827.57 haul fee
• Every size: $155.35 delivery fee, $4.14 daily rent, and $126.45 for a dry run (a trip where the container cannot be serviced)

So a 20 yard comes to $790.59 for haul and delivery, plus rent for each day it sits. Fees are set per container. If your address is inside city limits, ask the City or your provider whether you must use the franchised service before you book anyone else. The City’s fee schedule does not list a dumpster-specific street permit, so ask the City before you place a container in a street or alley. The schedule does list the project permits that most often come with a dumpster:

• Residential re-roofing permit: $79.19 (non-residential $263.97)
• Residential demolition permit: $100 (commercial and multifamily $250)
• Residential remodels and additions: $0.73 per square foot of the area added or remodeled, $100 minimum

Work done without a required permit is charged double the scheduled fee. Source: City of Decatur Schedule of Fees.

For a small cleanout you may not need a roll-off. Wise County runs public dumpsites, including one at Decatur, but they are for Wise County residents’ household trash only: no commercial trash and no dump trailers, and no trailer loads after 5pm. Posted prices include:

• Loose trash and brush: $15 per cubic yard
• Shingles (Boyd and Decatur sites only): $25 per cubic yard
• Appliances: $8 each; car tires: $3 each

The County figures cost by cubic yard: length times width times height in feet, divided by 27. These prices took effect October 1, 2016, so check them before you go. Source: Wise County Environmental Services.

Under Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rule 30 TAC 330.15(e), these may not be disposed of at any municipal solid waste facility in Texas:

• Whole used or scrap tires
• Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and anything else containing CFC refrigerant, unless handled under federal refrigerant rules
• Bulk liquid waste and waste with free liquids

Your provider will give you its own list before delivery. Source: TCEQ Special Waste Disposal.
